Support groups & helplines
Sometimes it helps to talk to people outside the family — a counsellor, a peer group, or simply a quiet voice on a 24-hour line. These are services we know and trust.
Phone lines, day and night
Cruse Bereavement Support runs a free helpline (0808 808 1677) staffed by trained volunteers. Samaritans (116 123) is open round the clock for anyone struggling, including the recently bereaved. The Marie Curie Support Line (0800 090 2309) offers practical and emotional support.

When the loss is a child
For the death of a baby or child, charities like Sands, Lullaby Trust, and Child Bereavement UK offer specialist support — including peer groups for parents and siblings. We can help you find a group near you.
“You do not need to face this alone. There are kind, trained people ready to listen.”
Group support, in person and online
Many local hospices run free open-access bereavement groups. Online communities like the Cruse forums can be a good starting point if you are not ready to be in a room.
