Documents you will need

The paperwork around death is small, but precise. Here is what is needed, who issues it, and how we help.

The medical certificate

This confirms the cause of death. It is issued by the GP, hospital doctor, or the coroner if there is to be an inquest. We collect it on your behalf when you give us permission.

Documents you will need

Registering the death

In England and Wales, deaths must be registered within five days. The registrar will issue the green form (for the funeral) and the death certificate. You will usually need extra certified copies — we suggest five to ten.

The "Tell Us Once" service

When you register, you can ask the registrar to start the Tell Us Once service. With your permission, they pass the information to government departments — pensions, HMRC, DVLA — so you do not need to.

One conversation can replace dozens of letters and phone calls.

For the funeral itself

For cremation, two doctors must sign separate forms (Form 4 and Form 5), which we arrange. For burial, the green form is enough. We organise everything; you simply sign where shown.
